About Joy

JOY CARGILL is a Fully Registered Royal Academy of Dance Teacher Holding an International Teachers qualification.  

Joy did her Training with the legendary John Pygram, an ex-British professional ballet dancer and the acclaimed ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE Examiner Miss Jennifer Lamb/Paynter.

Joy took over John Pygrams Private Dance Studio where she has been training children for Exams, Eisteddfods and Productions since 1980.

Apart from her private studio Joy has taught ballet as an academic subject at Paarl Girls High, New Orleans High School as well as Orleansvale Primary School. 

Joy held the position of Chairlady for the Royal Academy of Dance Regional Advisory Panel Western Cape. During her tenure she had the privilege of working with the CEO, Luke Rittner and Artistic Director, Lynn Wallis OBE of the RAD during the highly successful Genee International Ballet Competition held in Cape Town 2011.

She is presently the Convener for the Paarl Valley Ballet Eisteddfod. 

Joy prides herself in remaining immersed in the ballet world by regularly attending professional performances and keeping abreast in new techniques by Continual Professional Development programs.

The students are regularly exposed to workshops at UCT School of Dance and auditions for ballets presented by Cape Town City Ballet.

The studio still undertakes full-scale ballet productions such as The Nutcracker, The Fairy Doll, The King and I, The twelve Dancing Princesses and others.

 

The teacher/pupil relationship in ballet is unique in that it is potentially there for many years. Joy takes pride in fostering a comfortable relationship as tutor and mentor to each individual student.
